Anantara Siam Resort Hotel + Spa in Bangkok: A Family Review

If you are wondering where to stay in Bangkok with children, may I introduce you to the Ananatara Siam Resort Hotel + Spa?

My son and I recently stayed as guests of this very grand hotel and we’ve fearlessly investigated its child-friendly facilities. They were not found wanting, especially the lovely pool.

In reviewing this hotel, we will start with the information that’s most relevant to kids and families, then explain the more general things.

The Pool at the Ananatara Siam Resort Hotel + Spa

It’s large and it’s got pool toys!  The pool is 25 metres long and almost as wide. There’s a shallow end, and a 2.5 metre deep end. It doesn’t have a beach entry.

The pool has a terrace with lush gardens on one side. On the other side are beautiful ponds with water lilies, the Garden Terrace Rooms are here too.

The pool is on the first floor and  has some soaring high rise towers around it at one end. Quite a sight as you swim along.

Parents need to be with their young children in the pool, there is a life guard during the day too.

The Playground By The Pool

There’s a darling little playground area by the pool, ideal for young children and a safe place for them to play.

The Kids Club at the Ananatara Siam Resort Hotel + Spa

For children aged 2 – 12 years, the kids club at the Anantara Siam is spacious with a bright and welcoming atmosphere, lovely wooden toys too.

The kids club is free to residents and restaurant patrons and is open from 10am – 9pm

There is no need to book, you can just turn up at any time although you might want to chat about your requirements with staff as you check in.

Babysitters are also available in your own room, there is a fee for this service.

Free In-Room Smartphone, Wifi + Calls

Each room has an in-room smartphone which guests can use. It provides free and unlimited local calls, free unlimited international calls to 10 destinations (Australia, China, Great Britain, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and the United States) plus a digital city guide.

Wifi is free throughout the hotel and we gave it a thorough testing, it worked very well.

Rooms at the Ananatara Siam Resort Hotel + Spa

The Anantara Siam has 354 rooms and suites from the Deluxe Rooms to Garden Terrace Rooms to a Presidential Suite.

Rooms are large and very well appointed as you’d expect in a five star hotel. Bathrooms are huge with baths and showers too. You can request for adjoining rooms.

Some rooms have sofa beds which can be made up too.

Always best to call the hotel and talk to them about your family’s needs.

Restaurants and cafes at the Ananatara Siam Resort Hotel + Spa

There are ten eateries within the hotel. You cannot go past breakfast at Aqua in the open courtyard, wonderful variety and lots of fish to look at too. We also tried the Thai restaurant Spice Market which we very much enjoyed.

I’ve always fund that Room Service is a boon with kids, especially when mine were little. My son tried the spag bol and wolfed it down.

Sunday brunch at Aqua is a renowned treat for Bangkok locals so catch that if you stay on a Sunday.

Location – The Shopping District

Ratchadamri is Bangkok’s upmarket shopping area. There are huge shopping centres very close by and all sorts of shops and boutiques. It’s an excellent area for teenagers and children who love to browse and shop.

Central World Plaza is just a 10 minute walk away. Department stores, like Paragon and Gaysorn are very close.

Lumphini Park, the Suan Lum Night Bazaar and the Silom area are very close too.

Getting About Bangkok

The Anantara Siam is a minute’s walk from the Ratchadamri Sky Train station which can whisk you around the city.  Sukhumvit, a buzzing and lively area of Bangkok,  is a ten-minute ride away; Chatuchak, the  weekend market  is about twenty minutes away.

Spa and 24 hour health club

The health club is very large with plenty of equipment and is open 24 hours. There are yoga classes and thai boxing classes available, ask for details at reception.

The Anantara Spa is pretty special, I had a wonderful massage there which was most welcome after a day’s sightseeing around Bangkok.

All Anantara properties have their own signature spa and the quality is very high. Just walking into it’s scented spaces to make the booking was restful to this tired old mumma.

Ananatara Siam Resort Hotel + Spa – In General

Anantara is a Thai company, unlike the other international chain hotels.  The Anantara Siam differentiates itself from the other five star hotels by being, simply, more Thai.

The very elegant lobby

The hotel looks like a sumptuous Thai house, with local fabrics and artworks and wooden floors and artifacts.

You can see this from the moment you enter the magnificent lobby with its ceiling painted in bright and exotic murals. Quite magnificent, you definitely know you are in Thailand, top end Thailand.

The website has a virtual tour function which allows you to see many areas of the hotel including rooms and suites in 360 degrees.

Anantara Riverside Bangkok Resort

If you decide that you’d rather be closer to the heart of historic Bangkok, then do take a look at Anantara’s Riverside Resort. It has similar child-friendly facilities and is set in 11 acres of gardens.

Book me in there for my next visit! In fact, I’d love to stay in both for a few days and thus see the best of both sides of Bangkok, all in utter luxury.

Check prices and availability at Anantara Riverside Bangkok here.

Here’s a little one minute video I made showing the pool and terrace.

What have I forgotten?

What else do you need to know??

And importantly, when can we go back!!??

We stayed as guests of the Anantara Siam, thank to them for their hospitality. I can tell you that getting back to the real world of low ceilings, shopping, cooking and washing up was a shock to the system.

  1. Hi Seana,

I often find that the pools in city hotels are rather small so this is a good find. The food and mojitos look good too 🙂 I love Thailand and you Bangkok is fun for a stopover so this is on my wish list too.

Good luck getting used to the lack of room service at your own house!

Hi, Seana! Just like you, me and my family really love the Ananatara Siam Resort Hotel. Their service is superb, the rooms and amenities are clean but what I like about this place is that they also have a kids club and a play ground. Which is actually nice since we no longer have to leave the resort and go to a gymboree whenever my kids want to play.
