Grant Reserve Playground, Coogee

Grant reserve Coogee playground

Just up the hill and to the south of glorious Coogee Beach, this is a terrific, large playground with equipment to satisfy all ages groups.

The playground has been improved a lot since I first visited with one wild toddler in 2000. So has the toddler, now a teenager!

Aka Stan Windon Memorial Playground, Grant Reserve, Beach Street (near corner Carr Street,

A very large children’s playground with some modern equipment and also some huge wooden play structures.  The overall theme is that of shipping.

Some of the equipment is suitable for younger children, but it is particularly good for exuberant three to five year olds and older children as there is lots for them to try. There are swings, slides, arched bridges and a huge spiders web climbing frame. Littlies love the boat, rockers and tunnels.

Some are set on sand softfall and there is also a sandpit so bring your own sand toys.

There are plenty of pathways for trike and bike riding.

The views over Coogee Beach are lovely, especially from the top of the play structures.

There are benches by the equipment, barbecues and shaded picnic tables. The steps down to the playground from the main entrance can be avoided by following the path round to the opposite side.

Nearest takeaway cappuccino: Barzura is close  by on Carr Street

Toilets: Toilet block beside the playground on seaward side

Shade: Yes, some from shade cloth and trees

Enclosed: Not by a fence but surrounded by trees and scrub and not too close to the road. But not one for the real tearaways or runners as there are cliffs and the sea fairly close.

Mum’s report:  This playground is in a great position, I love it for the views of course, but the kids just see the play equipment.  Ideal after a visit to the beach or before or after a visit to Wyles’ Baths.

Extra:   The playground is on the route of the Coogee Clifftops walk and also near to Wylies Baths and Coogee Beach itself, of course

Map reference: Gregory’s 407 H2, Sydway 298 M19, UBD 277 H2

Parking:  Two-hour street parking on Beach Street

We live on the North Shore where there are a zillion great playgrounds too. But we love a school holiday expedition over to the Eastern Suburbs.

So maybe see you here soon.

If you’re a local can you recommend any other family-friendly cafes?

Happy playing.

I’ve been to Coogee Beach but I haven’t been to the playground. It looks beautiful especially as you clearly didn’t photograph it this past weekend! It would have been under water! I will add this to my list of ‘must take the little guy to this’ and if the weather improves I might get there these holidays xx
