Parramatta Swimming Centre – Has Now Closed …..

Boo hoo! Parramatta Swimming Centre has closed to make way for a new stadium.

Sacrilege!

Those wonderful waterslides are gone.

I am leaving here lots of photos of the pool as it was over the years we visited… roughly from 2003 until it closed in 2017.

Hope these photos bring back happy memories for you. Our family loved many visits to the old Swimming Centre.

The water slides were unique in Sydney and fantastic fun.

Parramatta Swimming Centre had….

Pools: Outdoors—50 metre heated pool, large shallow toddler pool, teaching pool, deep diving pool

This spacious pool complex was spread out over cool, green lawns.

The long waterslides were set on a bushy hillside.

The high diving boards were a thrill to watch and later to jump from.

How sad never to go to Parramatta Swimming Centre again… the new stadium is being built there now.  Let’s hope there’s a new pool complex for Parramatta soon.

I haven’t been to Parra pools for such a long time. I had no idea about the water slides. Thanks for the heads up 🙂

Parramatta pool was one of the best pools in Australia it’s devastating the council and state government have stolen it from us with no consultation for a stadium that could have been moved to acomadate both it is irreplaceable there goes more history parra pool had 9 million spent doing it up not long ago greedy developers couldn’t wait to rip it to sheds hang your heads in shame especially you Geoff lee member for parramatta your a decrace

My kids and I loved that pool, we’d drive over each summer from the Northern Beaches and swim and slide and jump. Unbelievable that such a community asset was closed.

Visited the pool often on early 70’s. The slides were not there then. Seeing the toddler pool with the seal brought back memories. Half of my family that spent many, many happy times there have now passed. Shame it closed. Is there another pool in Parramatta? I am sooooo sad.

Hi Seana, thank you. I grew up at Pendle Hill (I now live in QLD).
I have many fond memories of going to Parramatta Pool on hot days.
Our schools held swimming carnivals there too in the 1960s and 1970s.
I have not seen the water slides.
I think we paid sixpence and later 5 or 10c to go in.

It is such a terrible shame that the pool was demolished… and as yet there is no local replacement. Awful. Thanks for sharing your pool memories.

We loved going to the Parramatta Pool when we lived in Northmead in the ’80s and early ’90s. (Now live in NZ) We went there so often with our 3 young children! It was great! So sorry to hear it is now gone. Thank you for these photos. Brings back wonderful memories!
