Christmas Condensed Milk Truffles – Made By The Kids

SONY DSC

Here’s a recipe for Christmas Condensed Milk Truffles that was very popular last Christmas for the many school functions that need a sweet treat.

These are nut-free truffles which are also gluten-free in this version because we used gluten-free biscuits.

Really, I’d rather the kids made these healthy raw chocolate truffles, but that recipe has nuts so won’t do for school.

And anyway, I was taught to make these simple truffles by one of my favourite teachers at primary school in 1973, so it’s a recipe I’m very emotionally attached to.

My teacher had 24 of us all whacking biscuits to pieces in plastic bags. It was mayhem, but fun.

Condensed Milk Chocolate Truffles – Gluten Free

300g Arnotts Rice Cookies (gf)

30g cocoa

50g coconut

395g tin of condensed milk

50g butter, chopped

30g golden syrup

Method

Put cookies, coconut and cocoa into a blender and blend into fine crumbs

Melt condensed milk, butter and golden syrup in microwave or on stove top

Mix together, allow to cool. Leave in fridge for a couple of hours if you have time

Roll into balls and roll in coconut.

A bit of a seasonal treat, and the kids can run off all those calories no problem.

For myself, not so easy so I send them ALL off with the twins.

Do you still make sweet treats you learned as a child?

Were you at school in the 1970’s?

Were you even born then!!??

It is nice to enjoy some sweet treats. Luckily my four scoff food so fast I can’t overeat as much as I might. Just had a sudden thought, I must try these with Christmas cake instead of biscuits, plus a generous dash of rum. That wouldn’t do for school because of the nuts but would be fine for home. Drooool.

Ha I think the generous splash of booze might make a hit though? Maybe orange juice instead? I have been making some Christmas cakes and the outside and top of one caught so that one can not be used as a pressy so I have been using it for truffles, Baileys, Black Forest and Kahlua. I don’t eat any of this stuff – just as well being diabetic but it is nice to see others enjoying it! Merry Christmas!

I love the look of these, what a great golden oldie recipe! Definitely printing out the recipe to try! It’s always great to have a few quick to make recipes for busy families.

Hello Denyse… I really loved my primary school teachers in the early and mid-1970s, they had long flowing skirts and hair and played the guiatr… so cool. I bet you have been gifted these very truffles MANY times.

  2. These look very delicious!
I love the pic of the little fingers helping to coat the truffles in coconut! It is so much fun to cook with the children.
I didn’t start school until 1975 but I do have fond memories of cooking from and early age. I just made a special popcorn with the children that I learnt how to make at school in 1976 :0!

It’s great that these are GF and I love how you made them with the kids – it’s always lovely to do some Christmas baking with your children (if you can stand the mess!) xx

These look good! All my kids have nut allergies and this looks like something easy enough to make together. Yummo. I don’t remember much from the 1970s..except ABBA! I LOVED my ABBA record. I was very upset when I left it in the sun and it warped 🙁
