Sydney’s Best Playgrounds – Bales Park, Chatswood

Here’s a gem of a playground on Sydney’s North Shore, adored by the locals in Willoughby and Chatswood. Bales Park playground is terrific for toddlers and preschoolers and is justly beloved by mothers’ groups.

The wooden choo-choo train at Bales park playground was much loved by all my four children when they were little.

Bales Park Playground

Address: Stanley Street , Chatswood NSW 2067

This is a spacious playground beside the grassy playing fields of Bales Park. The extensive play equipment is suitable for little ones and for the more adventurous.

Play equipment includes: swings, slides, climbing frame, spinner, trike track and sandpit.

For many children, the main attraction is the wooden train with its engine and two carriages. They can get inside, drive the train, crawl all over it and sit at little tables inside the carriages.

Some paths are good for bikes and trikes, but they are not very long. The playing fields are right beside the playground and children can fly kites and charge around madly. There are picnic tables and seats in the playground.

The only major drawback is that there are no toilets very close, you have to walk across the playing fields to get to the nearest ones, a massive pain if you have multiple children in tow.

Nearest takeaway coffee: BYO

Toilets: Public toilets in the building across the oval

Shade: Only from trees but there are well-placed large ones

Enclosed: Yes

Mum’s report: Look out for fights over whose turn it is to drive the train! We love this playground and meet up with friends here often.

Parking: Street parking on Stanley Street and surrounding streets
