Easy Caramel Popcorn Recipe

This was supposed to be a post about how healthy it is to make air popped popcorn for the kids. Plain and simple popcorn makes an excellent after school snack, so quick and easy and no butter required. But no! My daughter, Minnie The Minx, took one look at the new popcorn maker and rushed off to find a children’s magazine with a toothachingly sweet caramel popcorn recipe.

We made it and it’s just too good not to share.  This is a fantastic popcorn recipe for a children’s birthday party, or any event where you’ll be sharing.

Easy Caramel Popcorn Recipe

1/2 cup of popcorn kernels

80g butter

2tbsp honey

170g caster sugar

2 tbsp milk

Sprinkles, chocolate bits, mini marshmallows

Gather a group of children to help you eat this sweet, sticky treat.

Pop the popcorn.

Place honey, butter, sugar and milk in a pan and melt together over a medium heat.

Bring to the boil and boil gently for about five minutes, stirring.

Pour the caramel over the popcorn and mix together.

Sprinkle with 100s and 1000s or mini marshmallows or chocolate chips.

Let set for a few minutes. You can roll into balls in wet hands.

Scoff the lot… no… share with lots of children.

Start marathon training.

Cuisinart Hot Air Popcorn Maker Review

We have found this machine super easy to use and much better than the one we had before which had given up the ghost.

This machine blows hot air which pops the corn fast and furiously. It pops a large bowlful at a time and just takes a few minutes. The machine is very light, handy for popping in and out of my top appliance cupboard.

I seriously love a simple plain popped popcorn and usually give that to the kids – we take our own to the movies sometimes.

There are many recipes in the instruction leaflet though, we will try out a simple cinnamon sugar popcorn recipe, and they have some interesting Asian-inspired flavourings.

This machine costs $69.95, a good investment I think.

Plain popcorn my be good for you but my dog refuses to eat it and that has got to be a sign hasn’t it! Can’t eat it cloyingly sweet dusted in icing sugar as my kids like it but artery clogging salt makes it go down a treat.

I love sweet and savoury but I once made popcorn balls with melted marshmallows which held them together and they were delicious for the adults just as much as the kids!

Plain popcorn because it’s healthier and you can use it as packing material. Instead of using Styrofoam – use popcorn πŸ˜‰

Each member of our family eat popcorns in their own way…

When I was a little girl I use to love popcorns soaked in honey but now I prefer to eat them with butter, salt and turmeric.
My husband prefers to eat them plain.
My son loves to eat popcorns with melted chocolate on them or with melted marshmallows – To be honest it makes me feel old.

The healthy answer is plain, but that’s just a big fat lie. If I don’t have it ‘savoury’ with lashings of salt and butter, then it’s sweet with caramel, marshmallows and hundreds and thousands. The calories are piling on just by typing this.

I like flavoured popcorn and I make a caramel popcorn with nuts. The trouble is, the recipe makes an enormous bowl of popcorn and I’ll sit there with the bowl in front of me, idly watching TV and then suddenly I’ll notice there’s very little left in the bowl. It’s like a shock to me as in, ‘I couldn’t possibly have eaten all that’. Like you say, ‘marathon training’ xx

Whoever thought that corn could taste to light and fluffy?
Once it’s attacked with heat, it goes all white and puffy!
My favourite popcorn flavour is natural and plain,
No fat, no sugar, no chemicals, how can you complain?
I eat it as a treat when the hunger pains are near,
It’s my non-guilty snack – cheap and available all year!

I love it plain, it’s such a tasty and healthy snack. I love it! Perfect for packing for on the go snacking for the toddler. I add Craisins and nuts to it for a Uni snack.

I have recently discovered sweet and salty popcorn, just add a small amount of oil, salt and caster sugar, sounds weird but it is delicious. All the girls at work are hooked too!!

Salted Caramel Popcorn, yummy love it, I’m magically transported into a fat free realm when I indulge in this. When the bowl is empty, that’s when guilty face emerge.

I’m a big fan of caramel popcorn. More caramel more tasty. Even if the kernel shell from popcorn gets stuck in my teeth, I don’t care, just enjoy the sweet and creamy moment.

Oh Seana, I would love to win this giveaway! I used to have a popcorn maker when I was a child (around 8 years old). It was very fancy at the time (although the appliance was pretty basic), I used to be really proud of it and would make pop corn (plain) when my friends from school came over to visit. Winning this prize would bring me straight back to childhood, and that’s what I need after having just turned 30 last week!

I eat my popcorn plain, but would like to try with salted caramel, just like in France!

This looks very scrumptious and sweet, which are my too favorite combinations! My loyalty runs deep for Cuisinart products, I have about 15 different appliances in my kitchen right now. I love waking up in the morning to a delicious cup of coffee created by my Cuisinart coffee maker parts which came at a great price from http://www.thegourmetdepotco.com/cuisinart/

Has to be icing sugar if I am by myself. If the kiddies are around then it is plain old, plain old with nothing on top.

I absolutely love having butter and caramel on my popcorn! Its delicious, heavenly bliss that is easy to create and devour also amongst the family!

  18. says: Emily Lawes

It’s not only about the flavour but what you have the popcorn with! Caramel is the yummiest but what makes it amazing is having it with a glass of wine and Channing Tatum in your lounge room, snuggling on a Saturday night!

I was sick of the kids alwasy eating my popcorn so I made cajun flavoured popcorn, needless to say kids dont eat mine anymore, am I bad πŸ™‚

*wipes drool* those pictures look so yummy!
    Tough question, but…

    I love my popcorn plain,
    really – it’s not mundane.
    A dash of sea salt,
    will put nothing at fault!
    Pop, pop, goes Cusinart,
then here comes the best part,
    sharing it with the family,
    just EPIC to put it plainly;
    bursting with flavours of corn,
    pure culinary perfection is born!
    Easy-going on the waist,
    Nothing beats the natural taste,
    especially not the cinema kind,
which doesn’t quite blow my mind.

Thanks very much for the chance to win! Saw this post shared on another website and came to check your website out. Happy to say I’m a new subscriber =D xx
