Healthy raw Chocolate  truffle CU

These raw chocolate nut truffles are just outrageously delicious.

The secret ingrediant is coconut butter and I’ve got Sarah Wilson to thank for it.

In her ebook “I Quit Sugar Cookbook’ she has the recipe for coconut butter, which is basically dried, shredded coconut milled in a blender until it is totally soft and spreadable.

I made it in the Thermomix, it doesn’t take long. A less powerful blender might take longer.


Healthy Choc Truffles-2 Sarah writes: ‘This is the cheapest, easiest, most nutritious and damn tastiest thing in this book.’

So I took the coconut butter as the starting point and then added in some of my favourite nuts and dried fruit.

Healthy Raw Chocolate Truffles Recipe

  • 100g dates
  • 50g dried apricots
  • 100g coconut butter
  • 60g ground almonds
  • 40g walnuts
  • 30g cocoa powder
  1. Put dates and apricots in a bowl and cover them with warm water for 10 minutes.
  2. Drain off the water.
  3. Put all the ingredients in a blender and blend until very smooth.
  4. Wet your hands and roll into little balls. Put them into fridge or freezer for 30 mins.
  5. Drizzle with dark chocolate or decorate in your favourite way.

Healthy Choc Truffles-6I made these for the children initially. They made a bit of a special after school snack.

But I’ve also given them to teachers, taken them to dinners and scoffed them myself as sheer comfort food.

For a less healthy treat that my kids love to make themselves try this Simple Chocolate and Condensed Milk Truffle.  That’s the recipe I learned at primary school just a few decades ago

    Mmmm. Those look good. I make date balls that have the same ingredients – but I don’t butter the coconut. I’ll have to try the butter version!

      They’re very slurpalicious. I always eat a lot fast and then feel full – could make a whole meal of them.

      Yes, they’re great. I usually use dried dates but today I mixed up a different nut ball combo in the Thermie using soft Medjool dates which tasted marvellous. Must try to use them more. But the dried ones are handy though, always have some in a tupperware in the cupboard.

    OMG that looks divine ! I had wondered what Coconut butter is as I’ve seen it on several ‘raw’ sites… who knew it was something so simple.
    I wish I was one of your school teachers, or a soccer coach or the mailman… pretty man anyone who would quality for a plate of these when you are handing them out

      They are too good… I made some peanut butter, protein, coconut, almond, date thinggy balls today and they are great too. So nutritious but I tend to scoff them up too fast. Must be zinging with vitamins though.

      Oh dear, with the healthy nutty things I’ve been making recently, I am not stopping at all. Even with the healthiest variety, not a good plan to overeat ’em… but rather desperate times here (solo parenting for three weeks of school hols – eek) and a bit of comfort eating isn’t the end of the world.

      I’m SURE other powerful blenders would work as well as the Thermie. I do use mine all the time, determined to gets moneys’ worth… they are so expensive.
