Jervis Bay Family Fun- Boat Trip Around the Bay

As a briny old seadog from way back, I’m always over the moon to be out at sea.

The Intn’l Man of Mystery, however, gets shockingly seasick.  So the day he and Teen14 went to Sydney to see the cricket was the obvious one for myself and the three youngsters to get nautical.

We’ve done a couple of dolphin boat trips on Jervis Bay before, so this time I booked us onto a smaller, faster boat which would take us around the whole Bay in just a couple of hours.

The twins had been fighting like cat and dog all morning and even Able12 and I had lost our tempers a couple of times.  By the time we climbed aboard I was all set to throw all the kids overboard.  And myself.

The boat trip turned all our moods around; it was fast and very scenic and exciting. Hooray!

The weather was overcast, grey skies and not much sunshine, so I don’t think these photos do great justice to the beauty of the Bay and the magnificence of its cliffs, caverns, beaches and bays.  But you’ll get the general idea.

It’s official, Hyams Beach really does have the whitest sand in the world.

Murray’s Beach at the extreme south end of Jervis Bay is one of my very favourite beaches here.

The towering sea cliffs of Point Perpendicular and you can just see the lighthouse on top.

My children were thrilled to see a real shipwreck on the rocks

And the dolphins came to play around the boat, always a huge pleasure to see them swishing around.

There are quite a few options for boat trips down here.  Check out Jervis Bay Wild and Dolphin Watch.

BC (before children) I used to spend a lot of time on boats of all types, yachts, dinghies, RIBs, dice boats, even punts when at Oxford.  Rowing and sailing and scuba diving were a big part of my life and I miss all that messing about on boats.

So his trip was a treat, and a much appreciated one.

Do you love being all at sea?  Or are you a landlubber?

Landlubber through and through! That’s not to say I haven’t had my fair share of boat trips though.
The water in those first few shots looks so inviting!

Gorgeous clear water is usual down there… and very rarely is a shark spotted. One was crusing around a beach we were at last year, we didn’t see it but chattered to people who had.

      Happy New Year Kellie!

I’m an old sea-puppy from way back! I used to race little wooden sailing dinghy’s (aka Moths) around Sydney Harbour as a youngster… and have even tackled some off-shore races in my time. I was extremely lucky to have a sailing father. Ahh.. back in the day 🙂

I had a sailing father too, we spent our holidays swabbing the decks and hoisting the mainbrace around the west coast of Scotland. Chilly! My sister is spending this year sailing round the Med on a wee boat with her family. I do miss being out at sea…. tham war the days.

I would like to book a family boat trip around the bay for my son, his wife and children, They will be in Jervis Bay for Xmas. I’d like to pay for it as I wont be there. Also I’d like to book them at the local movies.
    How can I do that?

Hello there, I’d just call one of the boat trip companies and make a booking over the phone, if I were you. You could cal Husky Pictures as well and as if you could do a booking and pay over the phone.

Jst to be clear though, I’m not speaking as a tourism expert, just an enthusiastic visitor who blogs about the places my family goes to. Good luck!

Hello there, I’m pretty sure it was this one:

The routes of all the boast will depend on the weather. Have you seen the post from last summer about the snorkel trip:

That trip was the absolute best I have done down there and we will be booking the same trip again this summer… can’t guarantee the weather again, it really was a fab day. When are you going down there?

Hope your holidays went well. We’re just back from being away ourselves. I know there was one day of terrible rain for you at least but hope the rest of the week was fine. Did you have a good time??
