The Sunshine Coast is popular with Sydney and Melbourne families for many great reasons not least that there are some fab places to stay. Renting apartments and houses is very popular as is staying in hotels. But if you, like me, love a great kid-friendly resort then the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort is for you.
I have enjoyed two stays at the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort, once on an adults-only press trip, which was very luxurious, and once when I was solo parenting my four children who were aged 4 – 14 years at the time. Busy!
Any resort that works well for a solo mum with four kids has got to be good! And I am keen to go a third time too, and maybe when I do I will finally get to the spa.
What makes the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort so good for families?
- It’s literally a five km drive from Sunshine Coast airport
- The resort is four star with a fab pool and good dining options
- There’s a kids club on site (not running at all times, check website)
- And a golf course too just off-site
- Heaps of watersports on the private lagoons with its cute small beaches
- And it’s right on Mudjimba beach
- 48,000 kids stay every year!
Here’s all the info you need to plan a stay there.
Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort Rooms and Apartments

Tip – book a room on the ground floor so that the kids can run straight out to play on the grass, take balls for them to kick around too.

The Queen had one of these when she stayed! These are huge suites with bedroom with king sized bed, humungous bathroom with spa bath and separate shower. The living room has a double sofa bed and private verandah. Maximum three adults.
Larger apartment options
If you need more space, have a think about the The Sebel Twin Waters. These are right beside the lagoon and guests can use all the Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort facilities.
I stayed with the kids in a very spacious three-bedroom apartment and we walked over to the resort for breakfast and to play and use the facilities every day.

The Kids Club at Novotel Sunshine Coast Resort
NB The kids club is currently not running at all times, please contact the resort to check whether it is open.
My children really enjoyed playing at the kids club. They met Princess Bubblegum, the guinea pig who was a very good-humoured girl and always keen to make her junior guests very welcome.
Since this Sunshine Coast resort attracts lots of families and hosts many weddings and other events, the kids club is very popular.
The kids club had heaps of great equipment, really good toys to play with. Overall, the size of the indoor rooms and of the secure playground is not huge. The kids do certainly get taken out and about at times around the Resort, and I know mine loved that. But whether that can happen or not depends on the numbers and ages of children on the day.
Kidz Cove activities include:
- sand art
- cooking classes
- beach activitirs
- board games
- dress-ups
- arts and crafts
- water play
- painting
Babysitting: available in-room at any time
Kidz Cove sessions ran: 9am – 12 noon, 1pm – 4pm and all evenings during school holidays, Friday and Saturday evenings only out of school holidays.
Bookings: Yes, bookings are essential
Age: Babies up to age twelve years
Cost: Hourly fees charged
Getting There and Getting Around
From Sunshine Coast Airport, I have always caught a cab for the short ride to the resort. When I stayed with my kids we didn’t venture too far and took buses and cabs when we did. But we were mainly having a resort holiday and there was plenty to keep us busy.
But if you’re keen to explore the many family-friendly places to go and things to do on the Sunshine Coast, then I definitely recommend renting a car.
You could always have a few days just spent at the resort and then a few days getting out and about with a car.
