Boo hoo! Parramatta Swimming Centre has closed to make way for a new stadium.

Those wonderful waterslides are gone.

Am leaving this post up in memoriam.

Even if you don’t live close to this pool, it’s well worth making at least an annual pilgrimage.

The water slides here are unique in Sydney and fantastic fun.

I used to take my older boys here every year but hadn’t been for far too long. The twins and I met friends here on that hot, hot Tuesday last week.  And kept cool!

Parramatta Swimming Centre

O’Connell Street

Parramatta NSW 2150

Phone: 9630 3669

Opening Times: Depends on season, call for details.

Under fours free.

Pools: Outdoors—50 metre heated pool, large shallow toddler pool, teaching pool, deep diving pool

This spacious pool complex is spread out over cool, green lawns.

There are plenty of benches for sitting by the huge toddler pool which has lots of space for parking strollers beside it. This pool is very well shaded, which makes it a great spot for babies and small children.

The learn to swim pool is also used for playing and is well shaded.  The Olympic pool is great for older children, it is not shaded at all of course.

The older and more adventurous ones can try the long waterslides, which fly down a bushy hillside. They are on weekends and school holidays in summer, but not to very set times. If the weather is good and the pool is busy they generally open around midday. Best to call ahead to check.

The high diving boards may attract the attentions of the young ones but are well out of their reach.  But they grow into them. When my older boys were little they loved watching teenagers flying off the diving boards… and now they are those teens!

Cafe: Large kiosk

Shade: Lots of shadecloth covers the toddler and teaching pools. There are large shaded areas beside the 50 metre pool, plus lots of shade also from trees.

Strollers: Four easy steps down to the change rooms or enter instead from poolside

Playground: No

Swim school: Yes

Creche: No

Gym: No

Mum’s report: A vital spot for families on hot summer days here in Parramatta. It’s close to the city centre and shops as well.

Extra: Parramatta Regional Park is close by, which has a good playground.

Map reference: Gregory’s 278 B16, Sydway 252 M12, UBD 191 B16

Parking: Free 2-hour carpark alongside

Nearest station: Parramatta is a 20–30 minute walk away

Nearest ferry: Parramatta Wharf is a 20–30 minute walk away

Bus stop nearby: Yes

I haven’t been to Parra pools for such a long time. I had no idea about the water slides. Thanks for the heads up 🙂

I was wondering why you went out to Parramatta on such a hot day, but now I can see why. It looks superb.

It’s fun. I do have some video of flying down the slides and splashing in. Must get a grip and upload.

My kids and I loved that pool, we’d drive over each summer from the Northern Beaches and swim and slide and jump. Unbelievable that such a community asset was closed.
