Collaroy Beach

Collaroy is a splendid spot for families, one of the really great places on the Northern Beaches.

It’s the combo of family-friendliness that makes it special; the winning trifecta of beach, rockpool and good playground.

And lets not forget the kid-friendly cafes close by.

All these photos were taken on an early autumn morning when very few families were around. Never mind!

Collaroy Beach and Narrabeen Beach are one long stretch of lovely honey-coloured sand which often has a big surf. Collaroy Beach is the southern end.

The beach near the carpark and playground has a nice wide expanse of sand to play on. However, the surf is often big and the flags tend to be further down the beach so it is not necessarily a good swimming spot in itself.

At the southern headland, along the promenade, is a large adult ocean pool and beside it a shallower toddler pool.

Just south of them is a sheltered patch of beach ideal for young children.

It is easy to push a pram along to these pools and little beach and there is plenty of space for changing and sitting.

Cafes: Some nearby on Pittwater Road

Toilets: There are public toilets, showers and change rooms at the surf-lifesaving club just north of the carpark, entrance on the Pittwater Road side of the building.

Shade: None at the pools or on the beach, but plenty in the playground and park area

Shark net: No

Nanny’s report: A fabulous spot which is well worth making an expedition to visit. The southern end is a little wonderland for children and the playground is large and good.
