The 6 Best Kid-Friendly Terrey Hills Cafes, Restaurants + Hotels

Here’s our list of the best Terrey Hills cafes, as well as hotels and restaurants, places that will welcome the kids as much as they do the adults. Two even have proper playgrounds for the children and some are part of a garden centre so you can get the garden shopping done as well as having a bite to eat.

Whether you are making a visit to a family-friendly Terrey Hills cafe in its own right, or stopping off on the way to or from a visit to one of the beautiful Northern Beaches, like Mona Vale or Collaroy, or you’ve been at the Terrey Hills BMX Track, a visit to one of these excellent Terrey Hills eateries will not disappoint!

There are heaps of cafes and restaurants in this area and we will run through them travelling from the North Shore to the Northern Beaches, west to east along Mona Vale Road.

The Tasting Deck at Forestway Fresh

What could be handier, a terrific cafe with a large playground within one of the North Shore’s premier fresh food stores. Forestway Fresh is very large and has all types of food you could possible need, beautifully presented. I used to shop here all the time for my fresh fruit and vegetables and often for much more, when I lived close by.

The addition of the cafe was and is a massive bonus. You could come for the shopping or come for the cafe and then make full use of both!

Forestway Fresh sits on the crossroads of Forest Way and Myoora Road and is a destination cafe and a destination fresh food shop.

The Beer Garden at the Terrey Hills Tavern is ideal for families

Terrey Hills Tavern

The Terrey Hills Tavern has a small kids’ play area, lots of wide open spaces inside and out, a Balinese-style Beer Garden, plus a kids’ menu. Indoors the Bistro area is huge, with some comfortable lounges as well as tables, plus an open fireplace.

This is the outdoor eating area, lots of it is covered. If you have wild little ones, might be hard to stop them leaping into the water.

The children’s playroom is pretty small but all four kids jumped around in there for quite a while, longer than I expected ie a whole glass of wine was drunk.  There’s also a quiet TV room for kids.

I went one evening with twins and two 11 year olds, and they enjoyed the food very much. The littlies had a kids’ meal of chicken nuggets and chips…. groan, they would love that wouldn’t they?!  Add in a pitcher of lemonade just to cover all the major food groups… oh dear…

The older boys had adult meals.  One had a meat lovers pizza which was huge and laden with chunky meat, it was a bit too spicy for him though.   The other lad loved the ribs and I enjoyed Moroccan lamb.

There are often mid-week specials eg two meals for the price of one etc

Tastebuds At The Hills

Tastebuds serves the most yummy meals and snacks, and has plenty of space. You won’t find a playground here nor a garden centre, however there is the gorgeous Hills Flower Market to show the kids and also a Horseland outlet. The food here is wholesome and plentiful, with great brekkie dishes, wonderful salads, wraps and stacks, and terrific coffee. Can you tell that it is one of my favourites?

Indoor seating at the Flower Power cafe – not the best shot, I need to get back there and take some more

Frankie’s Food Factory at Flower Power

This is a large and spacious cafe within a garden centre and with its own enclosed playground. It’s got the lot! A firm favourite with locals, the cafe at Flower Power has had different owners over the years, the lastest being Frankie’s Food Factory which also has outlets in Glenhaven and Milperra.

This is a fab spot to rest and relax after a bit of garden shopping, let the kids run wild in the playground whilst you sustain yourself with coffee and cake. It’s also an excellent place for a multi-generation lunch or brunch to celebrate a special occasion.

Cavallino kids menu
How cute is this kids menu from cavallino?

Cavallino Ristorante Pizzeria

Cavallino makes a fantastic venue for family lunches and dinners, it’s a place where you can get together with all the generations and everyone will enjoy themselves. The food is fantastic rustic Italian, the pizzas are terrific but lots of the grown-ups will enjoy the variety of Italian meat and fish dishes too.

When we lived close to Terrey Hills Cavallino is where we would meet up for school class dinners and for birthday celebrations. It’s also somewhere you might want to stop off for a good meal out after exhausting yourselves in the waves of one of the Northern Beaches.

Cavallino has heaps of space and is very family-friendly. Also a place we can recommend for a family or group function, check the website for more information. I would definitely rate Cavallino as the best family-friendly Terrey Hills restaurant.
