City Extra at Circular Quay is a jolly handy cafe/restaurant for families!
Babies, toddlers, preschoolers and older kids are here in droves on a rainy winter early evening. The place is awash with strollers and full of hustle and bustle.
With my twins in tow, we opt to sit indoors and grab one of my favourite tables, the booths at the back beside the lurid red City Extra sign.
Open 24 hours a day and serving breakfast, lunch and dinner all day, this is a handy spot in the very heart of the city. Great views of the Bridge too!

Open: Daily, 24 hours
A large and often busy restaurant aimed squarely at the passing tourist trade. There are tables and chairs outside where children can enjoy watching the bustle of the quay. A handy fence and hedge can help keep the kids from disappearing into that bustle but the area is not completely enclosed and so not truly childproof.
There is also seating on two levels inside. The tables and chairs are not overcrowded so strollers can easily fit beside the tables.
The adult menu is extensive with breakfast served all day. It includes burgers, pies, pastas, breads, snacks and drink. Alcohol is sold.
Pencils and colouring sheets are provided. The children’s menu is small but the menu has plenty of other options for them. Since the restaurant is open 24 hours a day, it could be handy for those times when children wake in the middle of the night saying ‘I’m hungry!’

Mum’s report: While not being top-notch gourmet dining, this is a handy spot to know about in the middle of Circular Quay. It is an oasis of calm amid the hectic activity and is the only place we know that does have good children’s facilities in the area. There is free wifi here – very handy!
