Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley: A Family-Friendly Resort

Crowne Plaza pinterest

I’m stunned and mortified that I haven’t visited and posted on this excellent resort in the Hunter Valley before!

It’s ideal for families, a great spot to visit from Sydney, or from anywhere!

The Crowne Plaza Hunter Valley is very much a family resort.

It has a wide variety of accommodation types all set within an 18-hole championship golf course and plenty of activities to keep all the family happy. There’s also the daily Water Dragons kids club, read our review here.

There are also great opportunities to do nothing at all… I’d have loved to but my children are just not like that.

The Crowne Plaza works for families with children of all ages; there’s fun for the little ones and a great pool. My teenagers would be kept amused here as well.

Here’s what you need to know:

Rooms: We stayed in a twin double room in the resort building itself. There are also two and three bedroom self-contained villas which we’d use if all six of us came to stay.

BUT I must say that I loved staying in the hotel so that we were close to all the amenities, and I didn’t have to shop, cook or cleanup.

The rooms are pretty spacious with lovely bathrooms.

We had a look around the villas too.

The twins made themselves right at home.

Pool: A really large resort pool with heaps of loungers all around. There’s a shallow splash pool for toddlers and a large expanse of shallow water which is great for older children to play.

There were heaps of great lilo floats which my kids loved playing with. There’s also a huge bubbly spa pool which is always a real winner with my kids.

Kid-Friendly Activities: My two adored the table tennis tables near the pool, there’s also a pool table. There is a basketball court and a volleyball court, plus three floodlit tennis courts.

Restaurants:  The Lovedale Bar and Restaurant is a bar and bistro which is open from 10am during the week and from 8am at weekends.  Food is available, including snacks, lunch and dinner. There is an outdoor deck by the pool, there’s also the Lovedale Brewery on site too!

Redsalt is the fine dining restaurant, very good indeed. It’s also the venue for breakfasts, great range of food with juice bar and coffee car too.

The room service menu had plenty of healthy options, impressed by that.

Kids Clubs: see full review of Water Dragons Kids Club here.

Teens Lounge: there is a laid back area for teenagers with comfy seats, TV and video games.

Internet/wifi:  wifi is free for IHG Rewards members only, other guests have to pay. The wifi is great around the resport complex but can be patchy in the villas. There is also pluggable internet in the rooms and villas so you should be able to get online.

Mobile coverage: Optus was very patchy but people said Telstra is good.

Spa: the Tea Tree Spa is within the main building. Had a divine 30 minute facial there – hooray!

Golf: read all about Hunter Valley Golf here.

Gym: Yes, open 24 hours, seven days a week, has a small cardio and weights room, showers and change facilities.

Shop: practical items and lots of gifts, cool candles, and an wide range of lollies and confectionary.

Staff: universally delightful, we asked for help many times and were immediately helped; terrific folk.

The downsides: Ummm… our room had the villa room service menu in it instead of the resort one… easily remedied!  Umm…. let me think of something else… well, I’d love if the kids club were open all day, see my kids club review here.

Would we go again?   Yes indeedy, we would and in fact we will. I’ll bring along my golf-mad husband and the teens.

That pool looks amazing! And the kids club is a big bonus. I think I might just forward this review to the other half as a big fat hint for a special anniversary we have coming up later this year x

This isn’t too far away from us to consider for a weekend away. The rooms look great and I can see my kids spending a lot of time in the pool. @teamwanderlust
